Stomach In, Chest Out, Eyes Straight Ahead

Written by Jerry on August 4, 2009 – 12:27 am -

You’ve seen it on TV.  The Drill Sergeant is screaming at a trainee to suck in his gut and stick out his chest.

Why do you think he does that?  Is it to look rough and tough?  Is it because he doesn’t want to see a fat soldier?  Not quite.

Every Drill Sergeant knows something that many Americans left behind in the 1960’s.

When you stand tall and look sharp, you feel better about yourself.

Don’t get me wrong here, I don’t think everyone needs to wear a suit and tie.  Even jeans, T-shirts and gym shoes can be neat, clean and well kept.

Look at what kind of stuff you see on TV and at the mall.  Do you think for a minute that most of those kids in baggy, ragged and dirty clothes have high self esteem?  And I haven’t even got to shaggy hair that hangs in their faces and looks like it hasn’t been washed in a week.

Come on!  Hit me with your best shot.  Tell me that I’m judgmental and they have the right to do their own thing.  You bet they do.  That’s one of the things I love about America.  But have you watched, really watched them.  Many move with vitality of a slug in a puddle and seldom look you in the eye.

I’m not condemning anyone here.  I’m just making a point that when you look sharp, you feel sharp.  Prove it to yourself.  Get dressed up and go out on the town.  Don’t you feel better when you feel like you’re taking good care of yourself?

Standing tall and looking good also has a few nice side effects.  Even if you’re already in a committed relationship, doesn’t it feel good when others check you out?  And fair or not, you get better service at stores and restaurants.

It’s all about building self esteem because when you have high self esteem, you project positive energy into the universe and when you project positive energy you start getting what you want.

Never Stop Exploring Life!
