25 Things You Can Be Grateful For

If you have read the 9 Minute Guide to a Happier Life or have been a reader of Cutting Edge Wisdom for a while, you know that I firmly believe in keeping a Gratitude Journal.

If you life has been really negative for a long time it may be a bit of a challenge, at first, to find 3 things every day that you are grateful for.

So I’ve created a little "cheat sheet" here to prime the pump and get you started.

Here are 25 things you might be grateful for:

  • Being employed.
  • Having a roof over your head.
  • A car that runs.
  • Food in the cupboard.
  • Freedom to choose your leaders.
  • A significant other that cares about you.
  • Healthy children.
  • Being alive.
  • Being healthy.
  • Living in more comfort than 90% of the worlds population.
  • The ability to read.
  • Being able to speak your mind without fear of being jailed.
  • Good books to read.
  • Inspiring music to listen to.
  • Heat inside when it cold outside.
  • Air conditioning inside when its hot outside.
  • Internet access to reach out to the world.
  • Being able to send a letter across the country in a few days for less than 50 cents.
  • A mind that can think original thoughts.
  • The ability to start a part time business from home for a few dollars.
  • Being able to control your thoughts and thus create your own reality.
  • That quarter you found on the side walk last week.
  • Clean clothes to wear.
  • Clean water to drink.
  • The fact that you are changing your life for the better, right now!

Hope you are starting to get a few ideas of your own to add to the list. Never underestimate the power of being grateful and …

How to STOP Being a Person that NOTHING Seems to Work For

Guest article

How to STOP Being a Person that NOTHING Seems to Work For -
by Bob Doyle

Do you ever wonder why great things happen to some people
but not to you?

Do you ever read about people who have tried this or that
product and had some incredible result, but when you try it,
you don’t get the same result?

Have you become a person who NOTHING seems to work for?

Maybe you’ve thought about trying the some new self-
improvement package that sounds great, , but you’re just so
tired of things not working for you.

Let’s take a look at how you’ve gotten where you are and why
these things might happen.

First, at some point, you tried something – either based on
a recommendation, a testimonial you read, or some other
reason. Basically, you tried it based on someone else’s
positive experience. However, when you tried it, you did not
get the same result so you made the assumption that it
didn’t work for you. But how true IS this? Often – VERY
often – things work differently for different people, and
it’s a mistake to judge your life by comparing it with
others. Perhaps you just needed more time. Maybe your
circumstances are completely different! Regardless, however,
you made up – you CREATED a Truth for yourself at that time,
that truth being "This didn’t work", although remember, that
truth is based only on your surface comparison with someone
else…and it really doesn’t have anything to do with you,
and what – in the cosmic scheme of things – is best for you.
Those results you read about for that other person are what
was right at that time for them, and that doesn’t
necessarily mean that NOW is the time for you and that it
will happen to you the same way that it happened for them!

From then on, every thing else you try is then compared to
that first experience, with the Truth in your mind being
"Well, it didn’t work that time…let’s see if THIS works".
So again you’re comparing…and not really trying anything
"purely" and on it’s own merit without preconceived notions
or judgements. You are already working against yourself! You
may not yet automatically expect failure, but you have it as
an option, and perhaps even a probability based on your
previous experiences.

The more things you try with this mindset, the more you
fortify this mindset – it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy
that "Nothing works for me". Before you know it, that is who
you Become. The person you are about reaching your specific
goals or trying this or that product or technology is "It
works for others but never for me." Once you reach that
place, it will most certainly become true for you.

So what do you do? How do you break out of this pattern?
First, acknowledge how you got here…by comparing yourself
or your results with other people who are really on a
completely different path then you, although they may have
been after similar results. Then create a new idea for
yourself – give yourself permission to experience success on
your own terms, without judging what happens based on other
people or expectations set up by anyone other than yourself.

Once you believe that you deserve to succeed and that you
CAN succeed and that you WILL succeed, your life will
change. Whatever you try will work for you, because YOU
define what "working" is – not somebody else! You set your
own timetable, you are relaxed, and non-judgement. Your
infinite patience and lack of expectation based Externally,
will work with you in very powerful ways and you will regain
control over your destiny.

How to Expect the Best

Written by Jerry on August 18, 2009 – 11:38 pm -

Do you ever find yourself getting stuck in negative thought patterns and expecting the worst possible outcome in just about every situation?

It’s a common mind-set that can be difficult to change when you finally decide you’ve had enough.  Unfortunately, negative thoughts tend to breed like rabbits and multiply on their own – even when you’re not consciously trying to think negatively the thoughts keep spinning.

The good news is that turning a negative outlook into a positive one just takes a bit of patience and practice until the positive thoughts begin to take over.  You will never be 100% positive but, it’s possible to be positive much more often than you are negative.

Here are three simple steps to begin developing your positive expectations on a daily basis:

  1. Develop self-awareness to recognize negative expectations.

One problem with negative thoughts is that they often form below your conscious level of awareness, and you get so used to them being in your head that you don’t even notice them anymore.  To turn the tide of negativity, you’ll have to develop a strong level of self-awareness.  A good way to start is by performing self-checks several times a day at random times.  Pay attention first to how you feel.  If you’re feeling positive and productive, most likely you’ve been thinking positive thoughts.

However, if you notice that you’re feeling grouchy, pessimistic or stressed, you’re probably focusing more on negative thoughts.

When that happens:

  2. Challenge and change the negative thoughts.

Believe it or not, it’s fairly easy to challenge and change your negative thoughts with a little willpower and concentration.  For example, if you find yourself feeling that you might not finish your work on time, you might try a little bit of self-talk like this:  “Okay, so I’m feeling kind of worried right now, but really everything is okay.  I’m strong, I’m smart and I’m capable of finishing my work on time.  I’ll do my best and everything will work out fine.”  Even though nothing has changed in your outer circumstances, this kind of self-talk can get you feeling and acting more positive.

  3. Develop a general positive outlook.

At the same time, while you’re changing negative your thoughts to positive, work daily on developing a the general positive expectation habit.  Each day when you wake up, affirm confidently, “Today is going to be a great day!

Everything will go my way and I’ll remain positive no matter what comes my way.”

When you encounter challenges, see them as opportunities to learn and grow.  Perception is 99% of your reality!  If you simply work on shifting the way you look at the experiences of your life, you can easily, over time, shift your negative thought habits.

The more you focus on changing your mindset to the positive, the more you’ll empower yourself to create better and more postive circumstances in your life.

Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying better opportunities more often and attracting other likeminded, positive people to connect with.

Be Okay With Money Flowing OUT

Written by Jerry on July 26, 2009 – 5:37 pm -

Not only should you focus on attracting more money to flow IN, it’s also just as important to alter your thoughts and feelings about the money you spend.  Think for a moment about how you view spending right now.  Do you avoid spending money because you’re afraid you won’t have enough to cover your bills each month?  Do you spend TOO MUCH to pacify an emotional need?  Do you feel resentful about the money you send to your landlord or mortgage company, creditors and service suppliers?

The way you view spending can have a dramatic impact on your overall level of abundance.  If you have unhealthy spending habits (whether excessive spending or excessive scrimping), you are effectively blocking more money from coming into your life.

Think about that for a moment.  If you resent sending money to people and companies that have loaned you money or provided services to you, you are attracting more opportunities to resent sending money out!  If you spend recklessly in order to fill an emotional need, you are attracting more emotional emptiness that you’ll have to try to fill!  If you are afraid to spend money because you are afraid you won’t have enough money to cover your basic expenses, you will simply attract more situations where you don’t have enough!

It sounds overly simple, but it really does work that way where the Law of Attraction is concerned.

So what IS a healthy spending attitude? Read more »
